We fit a variety of contact lenses from all the major manufacturers based on your prescription and lifestyle. For those patients wishing to try contact lenses for the first time, we offer training sessions on insertion and removal of the contact lenses. This includes instructions on caring for your contact lenses and what to do in an emergency. All diagnostic lenses are provided free of charge and new fits are supplied with a starter contact lens cleaning kit.
Contact lenses can be used for:
Advantages of contact lenses over glasses:
With very few exceptions, anyone regardless of age, can wear contact lenses. We have successfully fit children as young as 7 years old and adults in their 50's. You bring the patience, desire and ability to touch your eyes with clean hands and we will supply the TLC and patience to guide you through all the steps necessary to achieve a successful contact lens experience. Younger children are best fitted with a daily disposable contact lens so that cleaning and replacement schedules do not have to be supervised by parents.
Daily Contact Lenses
Put on in the morning, throw away at end of day. Limited prescription availability for astigmatism. Not available in multifocal.
These contacts are an excellent choice for:
Monthly and 2 week disposable lenses
These lenses come in 2 different types of lens material: hydrogel and silicone hydrogel. The silicone hydrogel material is the newest contact lens material and allows significantly more oxygen to reach the eye than the older hydrogel material. We prefer to fit the silicone hydrogel material, affording our patients the healthiest contact lens experience. A patient may not find the silicone hydrogel suitable, in that case a contact lens in the hydrogel material is used. Both materials come in the same parameters and have a wider prescription availability than daily disposables. Most contact lens wearers can be fit into these lenses.
Quarterly or yearly replacement (conventional) contact lenses
These are the original soft contact lenses, sometimes using the same materials that date back to 1960's. In our practice they are only used to fit those with prescriptions that cannot be covered by monthly disposable contact lenses. Usually these are patients with very high amounts of astigmatism.
These are the original contact lenses. They are smaller and more rigid than disposable contact lenses. They offer the sharpest, clearest vision of any contact lens available for any prescription parameters. RGPs are wonderful lenses to wear once the patient has fully adapted to them; however they are not the optimal choice for those involved in sporting activities as they can easily be dislodged from the eye. RGPs truly float on the tear film as opposed to disposable lenses which fit snugly on the eye.
